South Seas Tattoo Company

Rob, owner and resident artist

Rob is the owner and resident artist of South Seas Tattoo Company in Coral Springs, Florida, specializing in freehand Polynesian and Polyfusion tattoos, from forearm pieces to full sleeves, chest panels and back pieces, and in cover-ups of old tribal and unwanted work.

How are Polynesian pieces designed at South Seas?

Large Polynesian work at the shop is mostly drawn freehand, straight onto the skin, so the patterning wraps the muscle and flows with the body. As the shop puts it on Instagram: “Best way to get the tattoo is to freehand draw it on the skin.”

Pieces are often built over several sessions and extended over years, with honu, manta rays, tiki, makau and niho alongside symbols that mean something to the client, such as Taíno petroglyphs or Filipino patterns.

Does Rob do cover-ups?

Yes. Cover-ups are one of Rob’s listed specialties, and the shop’s cover-up work includes Polyfusion pieces over old tribal, lizard and name tattoos, and color or Japanese-style work over faded pieces. See the cover-up portfolio.

Art beyond tattooing

The shop’s Instagram also shows paintings, marker drawings and hand-painted caps with Polynesian designs. Some of that work is on the About page.
